We talk to Lux Alptraum, author of Faking It: The Lies Women Tell About Sex, and the Truths They Reveal. The book takes for granted that women do in fact lie, and asks what those lies are trying to tell us. We also discuss a piece recently published in the New York Times, “The Real Naked Selfies Are Coming,” about the media’s handling of a fake naked selfie purporting to show congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez nude. We talk about how we ought to handle real naked pictures of young female public figures—pictures that will inevitably come as millennials enter into politics. Finally, Lux shares some thoughts about the state of sex on the Internet.

Episode 38: Red on prison reform and the political power of art
We feature an interview with Red, a New York City based Marxist/feminist community organizer sex working art historian. Red’s organizing efforts sit at the intersection of art, politics, and labor. In addition to a discussion of the prison industrial complex as it relates to sex work politics, we talked to Red about the work they have done curating the art exhibit Whores Will Rise. For the news segment, we invited back Kate D’Adamo to talk about the clemency granted to Cyntoia Brown’s, how we got here, and organizing around similar cases.
Episode 37: Special Episode: International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers
Features live coverage from SWOP Pittsburgh’s December 17 event held in honor of the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. We interview of Christa Daring, SWOP USA’s Executive Director. They tell us about the history of the day, what organizations around the country are doing to commemorate it, and why it is important. We then move to a recording of the event that we, along with our SWOP Pittsburgh colleagues, organized and ran. First, we share the vigil, written and performed by SWOP member Moriah Ella Mason, then we move into a storytelling portion of the night, emceed by SWOP Pittsburgh member Nicole.

The Growth Arc is a trauma informed, sex-positive, relationship and sexuality coaching program that she started in 2017 to help people be more honest with themselves in all of their relationships. We talk to her about her own path to ethical non-monogamy and how she is drawing on these experiences to help others.

Features an interview with sex worker, activist, producer, and director Liara Roux. We talk to them about their activism around internet freedom for sex workers, starting with their “Open Letter to Patreon.” And, on a more personal note, we discuss their recent Motherboard article, “Coming Out as a Sex Worker, Coming Out as a Person” and the impact it had on their personal life and career.
Episode 33: Talking Sex Podcasting with Sluts and Scholars
Episode 33 features an interview with fellow sex podcasters Nicoletta Heidegger and Simone from Sluts and Scholars. They talk to us about why they started a sex podcast and how they’ve negotiated it in their professional lives. We also discuss the important work they are respectively doing in the areas of reproductive advocacy and therapy.
